Christine Holman Joyce

My name is Christine Holman Joyce and I am a freelance artist. I live in a small 16th century cottage in what can only be described as a charming, picturesque village  of Lamberhurst 40 miles as the crow flies from the heart of our bustling Capital city, London in England.

I started painting from a very young age and have vivid recollections on being given Painting-by-Numbers set. It was a very elaborate sea scape, far too advanced for a child aged eight (what were they thinking?)! But I managed to finish it and was convinced that it was all my own work and that I had created a masterpiece. I can honestly say that I have loved painting and painted ever since.

As you can see by my portfolio I undertake quite a varied range of commissions. I especially enjoy painting with acrylics on large canvases. I make all the canvas supports myself from scratch which is an art in itself! I like to paint on the highest quality materials I can find, and after buying the best weight calico canvas I lay, and sand up to 5 layers of gesso (canvas sealing and conditioning preparation) which I feel gives my work the best finish and is pure pleasure to paint on. My clients for the larger pieces are mostly in the USA. (I have a feeling its probably due to having larger wall spaces available.)

My real love is painting for children. I have so much fun creating these pictures which are packed with humour, colour and as much detail that I can put into them. They turn out to be little stories in themselves. The feedback I have received for this work is so phenomenal, that I have decided to specialise in personalised artwork, paintings and painted gifts for children.

That I believe in time the paintings will become childhood treasures for the child and their families, which will be handed down from generation to generation just as hand stitched samplers were in days gone by.
